Fractions has a numerator and denominator.Fractions has to be changed to the same denominator in order to add,like,1/3+3/9. First,Change 1/3 to 3/9.Then ,3/9+3/9=6/9.The answer is 6/9.
in addition to what dylan said,3\5can be changed into a decimal, which is 0.6 and it can be converted to a ratio, which is 3:5.It can also be converted to percentage, which is 60%. So,as you can see, they are related.

NgYeeHang: EVERYTIME WE WANT TO MINUS OR PLUS FRACTIONS, WE MUST ALWAYS CHECK THE DENOMINATORS, IF THE DENOMINATORS ARE NOT THE SAME, WE MUST CHANGE THE DENOMINATOR TO THE SAME NUMBER AND THE LOWEST TERM, WE MUST TIMES THE NUMERATOR AND THE DENOMINATOR TOGETHER.

YOU CAN ALSO SAY THAT DECIMAL IS reLATED to FRACTIONNS!
fractions TO decimals
LET meeee SHOW u AN example!
4 OUT OF 5 IS = TO ? IN DECIMALS YOU CONVERT 4 OUT OF 5 LIKE THIS: 4X2=8 5X2=10
BECAUSE, WHEN U CONVERT FRACTIONS TO DECIMALS, THE DENOMINATOR OF THE FRACTION MUST BE 10,100.1000 BECAUSE THE DECIMAL PLACES HAVE THE TENTHS PLACE,HUNDREDTHS PLACE,THOUSANDTHS PLACE ONLY! THE FRACTION ALSO CAN BE WHOLES LIKE THIS: 7 OUT OF 7=7.0 OKAY! BACK TO THE FRACTION EArlier!
SINCE U CONVERT THE FRACTION'S DENOMINATOR TO 10, THE ANSWER IN FRACTION IS.......0.8
EXPLANATION:IF THE FRACTION'S DENOMINATOR IS 10, YOU WRITE LIKE THIS 0.0
Weng JiaYi: P80 (1):Daniel is wrong because he should round up 1.625 to 1.63(2 decimal places) because 0.005 should be rounded up to 0.03 (2 decimal places), that is 1.625 should be rounded up to 1.63. (2):Monica is wrong because the answer should be in 2 decimal places ,.not 3 decimal places. She forgot to rouynd off into the 2 decimal places. The answer should be 1.56.
Responding to farrell_123, For example,13/8. the exact answer is 1.625. But we must express the anwer in two decimal places. W should round up 1.625 to 1.63 Because 0.005 should be rounded up to 0.03. 1.625 should be rounded up to 1.63.
Jorine and Jasmine says... To convert a fraction to a decimal, we must change the denominator to either 10,100 or 1000.For example,3/5 can be converted to 6/10.6/10 can be converted to 0.6.
When we add,the denominator must be same. 1/8 + 2/3=? multiple of 8=8,16,24,32 multiple of 3=3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24 same multiple of 3 and 8=24 3/24 + 16/24 =19/24
l_l_l_0_l l_l_l_0_l l_l_l_0_l l_l_l_0_l l_l_l_0_l l_l_l_0_l l_l_l_0_l l 0 l_0_l l 0.l_0_l _________ 0 2.1 0 0 You can draw beads to work out easier in decimals. The figure above shown 2.10 = 2.1 *ten thousandth = one hundredths *ten hundredths = one tenths *ten tenths = one whole
Jorine and Jasmine says... To add fractions, the fractions must be like fractions.Which means they must have the same denominator. For example: 4/5 + 2/10 = 8/10 + 2/10 =10/10 =1 whole
Adding unlike fractionsfirst,find a common denominator.Then,add the numerator of the two fractions.let me show you an example:4/5+1/2=8/10+5/10 =13/10 3in mixed numbers,it is 1- 10
WHEN YOU CONVERT FRACTIONS TO DECIMALS, THE FRACTION'S DENOMMINATOR MUST BE 10,100,1000 BECAUSE DECIMALS HAVE ONLY THE TENTHS PLACE,HUNDREDTHS PLACE AND FINALLY THE THOUSANDTHS! SO THE FRACTION'S DENOMINATOR MUST BE SOMETHING OUT OF 10,100,1000
FRACTIONS Fractions are related to mixed numbers, decimals, percentage and ratio.for example: 67/100 is 0.67 in decimals 2/5 is 2 1/2 in mixed numbers 4/5 is 4 to 5 in ratios
SUBTRACTING UNLIKE FRACTIONS5/10-1/5=?1X2=25X2=101/5=2/10When we subtract unlike fractions,we must change the denominator into the same number first.(this is a must)5-2=3Next,we subtract the numerator. The answer is 3/10
------------FRACTIONS--------------- Fractions with the same denominator are called like fractions. Fractions with different denominators are called unlike fractions.Adding unlike fractions is simple! For example,4/12+1/12 is the same as 4+1. So,the answer is 5/12.(by the way, subtracting like fractions is almost the same) Adding unlike fractions is not the same. You have to change the denominator into the same number to add.(this is a must)Let me show you how.(this is also the same as subtracting unlike fractions) 1/6+5/12=2/12+5/12 =2+5=7 The answer is 7/12. For converting fractions into decimals,we change the denominator into 10,100 or 1000.For example, 1/2=5/10 0.5 12/25=48/100 0.48 1/8=125/1000 0.125
When you multiply fractions you have to reduce or cancel the big numbers to the smaller numbers. If you cannot then you multiply the numerator to the numerator and denominator to the denominator. But remember that when you reduce to the smaller number you can reduce only from the numerator to the denominator. You cannot reduce numerator to numerator or denominator to denominator.
†NgYeeHang™†: When We Times Or Divide Fractions, We Do Not Need To Change The Denominator. When We Times Fractions, We Times The Numerator With The Other Numerator And We Times The Denominator With The Denominator. We Cancel Or Reduce Fraction By The Left Fraction's Denominator To The Other Right Fraction's Numerator. We Also Can Reduce Or Cancel The Numerator Of The Left Fraction To The Other Right Fraction's Denominator.
When We Divide Fractions, We Need To Change The Right Fraction To The Opposite. Example:5/3=3/5. Then We Can Times The Fractions Together.
MULTIPLICATION OF FRACTIONS When we MULTIPLY fractions with another fractions,we must multiply the denominator with the denominator. Then we multiple the numerator with numerator. Reduce all numbers to the lowerest term first. This will make the multiplication easier later because we don't need to handle big numbers after multiplication.
jorine says.. In the garden there 100 flowers. 3/4 of the flowers are roses. the rest are lily.how many flowers are violet? 2 varibies=,lily, rose remaining=4/4-3/4=1/4 violet=1/4=25
In order to add fractions, the denominators must be the same eg. 2/9+4/9=6/9=2/3 If the fractons are divisible by any of the multiples, change it to the simplest form.Take the above answer as an example.
2/5+3/5=5/5=1 5/5 4/4 3/3 2/2 ...become one When the denominator and numerater is the same,it is one. 4/5=8/10=16/20 before you add, make sure that the denominator of the fractiionsare the same
denominator tells us total equel part numerator tells us number of equel part. like fractiion is when the denominator of the two fractions are the same. unlike fraction is when the denominator of the 2 fractions are same.
FRACTRION When you divide things into equal pieces, the number of the pieces is the denominator of the fraction. It is "under the line".The number "above the line"is numerator.
eg.|--|--|--|--|--|--| so if you want to form a fraction,6 is the denominator of the fraction.
|//|//|--|--|--|--| 2 is the numerator of fraction. The fraction will be two over six.
Denominator tells us the total equal parts. Numerator tells us the number of equal parts to select.
ADDING/SUBTRACTION OF FRACTION Before we add/minus ,we have to made sure that the denominators of the two fractions are the same.If they are not the same , we have to change them to like fractions.
MULTIPLICATION OF FRACTION When we are multiplying the fractions , we multiply numerator with numerator, denominator with denominator. Then change the answer to the simplest form or change improper fraction to mixed number.
There are three kind of fractions. 1.fractions 2.mixed fractions 3.improper fractions The numerator tells us the number of equal parts we select. The denominator tells us the total number of equal parts. The denominator must be the same for like fractions. The denominator is different for unlike fractions. To add and subtract fractions, change unlike fractions to like fractions first. We must always change fractions to the simplest forms. We can change improper fractions to mixed numbers. We do not need to change the denominator if we are multiplying or dividing.
Jasmine says: If you compare a fraction with the same denominator, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the bigger fraction: 4/9 and 7/9 : 7/9 is bigger
If you compare a fraction with the same numerator, the fraction with the smaller denominator is the bigger fraction because they are cut into less equal parts. Thus, each part is larger.
An equivalent fraction can have similar size: 4/8 and 1/2 , 2/6 and 1/3
Tan Le Jun ----------------------------------------------- [fraction] 1)fraction have a numerator and a denominator.a numerator is a number on the top of the fraction.a denominator is the number on the bottom.example:2/3.the 2 is the numerator and the 3 is the denominator. 2)there are three kind of fractions : a mix number:2 2/6 a proper fraction:2/5 a improper fraction:3/2 3)a fraction is equal parts
1.Fractions can be covered to proper fractions ,improper fractions and mixed nubers to decimals. It can beconverted to decimals by converting to tenths ,hundredths and thousandths ,using long devision or a using calculator. 2.We can do ploblem sums with fractions by drawing models as it would make the question more easier to understand 3.We can also multiply proper fractions ,and divide a proper fraction by a whole number 4.Fractions have denominators and numerators.Examples : 2/3 << the number that is above is called "numerators" and the bottom number is always called "denominators 5.Fractions is equal parts 6.Whenever you do addition or subtraction, you must make the denominators to be the same numbers then you add or subtract. When the numbers of the denominators are the same ,that is called "like fractions"
fractions 1.Fractions have denominaters and numerators. 2.Fractions can be proper or improper. It can also be mixed number of a whole number. 3.Fractions can be converted to decimals. 4.Fractions can be unlike or like. 5.Frations can be added, subtracted, mutiplied or divided. 6.When we are adding unlike fractions,we must change the denominater to the same number.eg
2/3+1/9=6/9+1/9=7/9
7.If the fraction has the same denominator,it is a like fraction. 8.fractions have equal parts. 9.Denominator tells us the total equal parts. 10.Unlike frations have different denominators. 11.A mixed number is made up of a whole number and a fraction.

UNLIKE FRACTIONS ARE FRACTIONS WITH DIFFERENT DENOMINATORS. EG.2 OUT OF 5 AND 3 OUT OF 10
ADDING LIKE FRACTIONS IS SIMPLE! JUST FOLLOW AN EXAMPLE FROM ME BELOW:
2 OUT OF 5 + 3 OUT OF 5= 5 OUT OF 5

NOW THAT THE BOTH FRACTIONS HAVE THE SAME DENOMINATORS, JUST PLUS THEM!
4 OUT OF 10 (WHICH IS 2 OF OF 5 IN THE FIRST PLACE) + 3 OUT OF 10=7 OUT OF 10
*7 OUT OF 10 IS IN THE SIMPLEST FORM!
---------RELATIONSHIP TO FRACTIONS---------

It is 1 whole because the 1 in 1/5 is a numerator and the 5 in 1/5 is a denominator.
Same goes to the other fraction.
We add the numerators and we get the answer 5-5/5
if the numerator is the same amount of the denominator,it is called a whole

changing fractions to decimals
ReplyDeleteto change a fraction to deciaml the denominator of the fraction has to be 10,100 or 1000.Try converting 4/5 to a decimal.
to do this we have to change the denominator so
4/5=8/10
then we convert
8/10=0.8
we can change fractions into percentage by multiplying the denominator to hundreds e.g
ReplyDelete30/50x2=60/100=60%

ReplyDelete(a)400 angpows, how many boys and girls are there?
400 divide by 4=100 girls and 100 boys.
There are 100 boys and 100 girls.
(b)80 children, how many anhpows and boys are there?
80 divide 2=40(girls and boys each)
80x4=320
There are 320 angpows.
There are 40 boys and 40 girls.

fractions TO decimals
LET meeee SHOW u AN example!
4 OUT OF 5 IS = TO ? IN DECIMALS
YOU CONVERT 4 OUT OF 5 LIKE THIS:
4X2=8 5X2=10
BECAUSE, WHEN U CONVERT FRACTIONS TO DECIMALS, THE DENOMINATOR OF THE FRACTION MUST BE 10,100.1000 BECAUSE THE DECIMAL PLACES HAVE THE TENTHS PLACE,HUNDREDTHS PLACE,THOUSANDTHS PLACE ONLY!
THE FRACTION ALSO CAN BE WHOLES LIKE THIS:
7 OUT OF 7=7.0
OKAY! BACK TO THE FRACTION EArlier!
SINCE U CONVERT THE FRACTION'S DENOMINATOR TO 10, THE ANSWER IN FRACTION IS.......0.8

4/5 is 4 to 5 in ratios
SUBTRACTING UNLIKE FRACTIONS5/10-1/5=?1X2=25X2=101/5=2/10When we subtract unlike fractions,we must change the denominator into the same number first.(this is a must)5-2=3Next,we subtract the numerator. The answer is 3/10
ReplyDelete------------FRACTIONS---------------
ReplyDeleteFractions with the same denominator are called like fractions. Fractions with different denominators are called unlike fractions.Adding unlike fractions is
simple!For example,4/12+1/12 is the
same as 4+1. So,the answer is 5/12.(by the way, subtracting like fractions is almost the same)
Adding unlike fractions is not the same. You have to change the denominator into the same number to add.(this is a must)Let me show you how.(this is also the same as subtracting unlike fractions)
1/6+5/12=2/12+5/12

The answer is 7/12.

1/8=125/1000

Fractions must be in simplest form everytime you do fractions.
ReplyDelete: 4 out of 5 x 3 out of 5 = ?
Since the denominators are the same, you just x the numerators. DO 4 x 3 =12
As I say , we should make it the simplest form, so we DO 12 (numerator) divide by 5 (denominator) =2 wholes remainder 2 right?
so the answer is 2 wholes 2 out of 5 ( 2 )

Multiplying fractions
ReplyDeleteWhen you multiply fractions you have to reduce or cancel the big numbers to the smaller numbers. If you cannot then you multiply the numerator to the numerator and denominator to the denominator. But remember that when you reduce to the smaller number you can reduce only from the numerator to the denominator. You cannot reduce numerator to numerator or denominator to denominator.
when we are looking for a remainder,we must use the whole number to subtract the first variable to get the remainder

ReplyDeleteWhen We Times Or Divide Fractions,
We Do Not Need To Change The Denominator.
When We Times Fractions, We Times The Numerator With The Other Numerator And We Times The Denominator With The Denominator.
We Cancel Or Reduce Fraction By The Left Fraction's Denominator To The Other Right
Fraction's Numerator.
